2027 election: how to check your name, polling unit and PVC
Nigeria’s presidential and National Assembly elections take place on Saturday, 16 January 2027, with governorship and State Assembly elections on Saturday, 6 February 2027, under INEC’s revised timetable. If you want to vote, now is the time to make sure you are on the register and have your Permanent Voter Card (PVC).
Registration for new voters closed on 26 July 2026. INEC will publish the final register on 15 December 2026, so any errors must be raised before then.
Step 1: Find your polling unit
Your polling unit is printed on your PVC. If you don’t know it, use INEC’s Find Polling Unit tool.
Step 2: Check your name on the register
- Go to INEC’s display portal at display.inecnigeria.org.
- Search for your polling unit. The register is shown one polling unit at a time.
- Find your name and check that your photo and details are correct.
If your name is missing, misspelt or in the wrong polling unit, raise a claim with INEC before the final register is published, ConnectNigeria advises.
Step 3: Collect your PVC
- Where: Since 16 October 2026, uncollected PVCs are at your local government INEC office (in the FCT, the area council offices).
- Check first: Use the INEC CVR portal to find where your card is. You will need your Voter Identification Number (VIN), or your name, date of birth and state of registration.
- Bring: your registration slip or VIN and a means of identification. Collection is free and must be done in person.
- Registered in 2026? INEC says these cards are not ready yet and has not announced a collection date.
On election day
Polls open at 8:30am and close at 2:30pm. You must bring your PVC; the registration slip is not accepted.
Be careful
INEC has warned about fake online registration portals. Only use INEC’s official websites, and never pay anyone to “register” you or “fix” your name.
Living abroad? Nigerian law does not currently allow diaspora voting (Legit.ng explains), so you must be in Nigeria, at your registered polling unit, to vote.
