Super Falcons and three Nigerians nominated for 2026 CAF Women’s Awards
The Super Falcons and three Nigerian players have been shortlisted for the 2026 CAF Women’s Awards, which will be held in Lagos on Monday, 7 December 2026.
CAF announced the shortlists on Tuesday, 3 November, Blueprint reported.
The Nigerian nominees
| Award | Nominee | Club |
|---|---|---|
| Goalkeeper of the Year | Christiana Uzoma | Edo Queens |
| Young Player of the Year | Janet Akekoromowei | Benfica |
| Young Player of the Year | Oluwakemi Adegbuyi | Robo Queens |
| National Team of the Year | Super Falcons |
Uzoma is 17. Adegbuyi is also part of the Flamingos squad that reached the final of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup this week.
A notable absence
Chiamaka Nnadozie, who won Goalkeeper of the Year at the 2025 awards for the third year in a row, is not on this year’s shortlist. No Nigerian was nominated for the main Women’s Player of the Year award.
The Super Falcons, who won National Team of the Year in 2025, are nominated again despite a disappointing WAFCON 2026 campaign. They face competition from Algeria, Cabo Verde, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Malawi, Mali, Morocco and South Africa.
Lagos hosts
The ceremony will be held in Lagos, giving Nigerian fans a rare chance to see the continent’s biggest football awards at home.
